Black Tie......hrmmmm

Well I try not to follow the crowd too much. I buy what I want when I want it (or can afford it). But I caved. I kept hearing all this love for Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Black Tie. Bad idea. When will I learn to listen to my gut instinct. Ugh.
Formula wise this is nice. Not the best, but not streaky. Had some bubbling happen but that could be due to anything really and a good topcoat covers that right up. This is two coats.
It's a greyish-black base with a duochrome effect in purples and greens. It's not like an oil spill like Zoya Ki or OPI Not Like The Movies. This is way more subtle. And the purple has a definite pink tinge to it. Extremely subtle microglitter sparkle.
What went wrong here is that you need 3-4 coats to get what happens in the bottle and you've lost me after two unless I'm lusting after the polish. Which I definitely wasn't. Sadly Black Tie you and I weren't meant to be. You are pretty in the bottle but not a stunner.
On the flipside I have two others coming up: Wedding Crashers (which I wish I had Zoya Roxy because I swear they are near dupes!) and Black Diamonds! I have not picked up Glass Slipper and may not after this brush with a trend that I really wasn't feeling from the beginning. Lesson learned.

  1. It looks great on you. Too bad about the amount of coats needed. I don't like to have to do more than 2 either.

  2. I think the problem here was all the hype made this seem like it was gonna be magical - but it's just a nice, understated and slightly unique color. It really IS pretty, just not worth the frenzy people put on it.

  3. Thanks gals :) Yeah it IS a nice color but not a me color sadly. Debating what to do with it at this juncture.
