Hubby's Picks (HP30): Rays of light

So I ditched my initial idea since it involved a gradient and I find them an easy-out. This is supposed to be a challenge! So out came the striping tape. Bane of my existence, BUT it produces wonderfully nice lines and is pretty easy to control on the nail when using it for designs.

The colors this week are Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Brisk Blue, Sally Hansen Golden-I, Lac Attack Butterfly Kisses, and China Glaze Blue Island Iced Tea. He says he picked this week's colors because he thought they looked pretty together and I totally agree. The photos just don't do this one justice.

Get the look:
  • Begin with base coat and do 1-2 coats of a shimmer or dense glitter polish on the bottom. This is where I used China Glaze Blue Island Iced Tea. Top this off with a sparse glitter with lots of contrast (Lac Attack Butterfly Kisses). Wait till this is completely dry.
  • Next Tape off a triangle down the side of the nail and another one at the base of the nail. Reverse the triangle on every other nail. Carefully fill these with a contrasting color to the base, Sally Hansen Golden-I on my look. Again wait for this to completely dry before doing the last part.
  • Last tape off a triangle in the second triangle created near the base of the nail. Center it in that triangle by taping to the tip created by the first two triangles. Now you have rays!
  • Finally top off with your favorite topcoat.

I just LOVE the tiny pop of pink and the two blues compliment each other nicely by being separated by the gold. When faced with several colors I always pair off the colors that look nice together and then figure out how to separate the ones that may clash using those pairs.

Do you like this weeks Hubby's Picks? Lots of possibility here! If you recreate this look email me at mommydoes @ live (dot) com and I'll post it on the following weeks Hubby's Picks. I'd love to see your versions!
