Are they dupes? OPI Skyfall, Zoya Pepper, and Julep Coco

Well I finally had to clean up my stash cupboard. I couldn't really get to anything with burying myself in a 500 bottle pile up. After two hours of digging, sorting, and tossing (no not polishes, relax, just all the nifty inserts in all the nail mail) I came to a conclusion. I have possible dupes.

Enter Julep Coco, OPI Skyfall, and Zoya Pepper. My love of brick red dates back to the second grade when I got my first box of 64 colors of crayola. That brick red was the first to get used up. I colored everything with it. Like everything. My hair color according to my eight year-old self? Brick red. My black cat? Brick red. Our big yellow house? You guessed it! Brick red.

Artistic interpretation aside the question here is whether these are dupes. Now you do need to know I'm a big believer in two, thin coats. Thus coat one is patchy. I think if you were to do a more generous first layer they'd all be opaque in one coat.

I had to take a photo in direct sunlight to pick up the differences in the bottles.

All of them have incredible formulas and go on super smoothly. All are patchy with super thin coats. In this I couldn't tell the difference between them.

In most lights OPI Skyfall and Zoya Pepper look almost identical. In the brighter light Pepper is slightly more rusty then Skyfall, but other then that they are almost spot on. Julep Coco is definitely a deeper, less rusty red, and more of an oxblood red.

What do you think? Does your heart get stolen by rusty reds like mine?

  1. Great comparison!! I've been organizing too. While I haven't found dupes, I did find a few duplicates :O.

    1. Thankfully I've only done that once on accident. I do have some back ups (Essie pure pearlfection and Julep Sienna) though.

  3. In certain lights, I could tell the difference, but low light setting it's kind of hard. You did a great job comparing! Thanks for this! (Even though I can never pull off red nails xD)
