Goin' Grunge (HP25)

So I've wanted to try out this grunge technique I saw on Pinterest forever ago so when Hubby picked all cremes I was all like, "WOO HOO!" and went, and clicked the pin, and got a page with an error. Lame. So I had to figure it out myself.
It does not look nearly as cool as the one on Pinterest but I do love the vibrant purple at the base peeking out.
What I did:
1. First I painted each color, let it dry, then layered the next right over the top. I went in this order:
  • Sally Hansen Virtual Violet
  • Sally Hansen Fast Fuschia (deceptive name since it's a medium pink)
  • China Glaze City Sirens
  • Sally Hansen Purple Haste
Now that I look at that line up it's very....chaotic. Fitting! Anyhow now they are all layered and dry.

2. Before top coat I took a very small brush, dipped it in acetone and just brushed up gently to eat away down through the layers to reveal the colors underneath. It's really important to clean the brush after each area or the colors become muddy.

3. Top with top coat. I can tell I need to try this technique a little more and maybe try a couple different sizes and textures of brush, but I rather like it!

Hubby liked it too - it was not at all what he was expecting. But then one has to wonder what he IS expecting when he gives me these line ups.....well until next time!

    2. I think they called it an acid wash manicure and right! There's srsly no need to wait for an excuse for some Pearly Jam. Pretty much right now is a good enough excuse ;)

  3. Lovely! I always enjoy Hubby's Picks. I should have my hubby pick some for me. Of course, once I asked his opinion on whether I should buy a certain polish and all he would say was "I like the ones you already have." Ha! ;P

    1. That's so awesome to hear and if you do manage to get him to pick a couple colors let me know and I'll totally feature it! I try getting my man's opinion too and he says the same BUT he loves all the new ones I get. Not really sure what that means....
